WASHINGTON, DC — The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) hosted its third in a series of “Town Hall Screenings” of the one-hour documentary “Cyprus Still Divided: A U.S. Foreign Policy Failure” at St. John the Forerunner, Boardman, Ohio, on April 4, 2011.  The screening was held in cooperation with a multitude of organizations, including: St. John the Forerunner Cultural and Heritage Programs, AHEPA Lincoln Chapter 89, Youngstown; AHEPA Zeus Chapter 88, Akron; Daedalos Chapter 4 of the Pan-Ikarian Brotherhood, Pan Arcadian Federation, Tripolis 9; Manolakakis/Theodorakis Cretan Association, and the Chios Society Agia Markella. 

A discussion about the documentary and the Cyprus issue featuring AHI President Larigakis followed the documentary’s screening. He expressed AHI’s appreciation to all the organizations that supported the screening and to AHEPA Lincoln Chapter 89 President Jim Denney.

“We thank the Ohio communities of Akron and Youngstown for supporting this event, and we deeply appreciated working in cooperation with the many Greek American organizations who helped make the screening a success,” said Larigakis.  “The documentary sheds light and scrutinizes U.S. foreign policy toward Cyprus surrounding the 1974 Turkish invasion.  Our goal is to create awareness of the documentary’s significance and encourage communities to urge their PBS affiliates to air the program.”

The next series of “Town Hall Screenings” will be held on the west coast.  Three cities in California, Sacramento, San Francisco bay area, and Los Angeles, will host screenings, April 27-29, 2011.  Please click here for details.
