Government Officials from Cyprus Visit AHIWASHINGTON, DC — Cyprus Government Spokesman Stefanos Stefanou and three mayors representing cities located in Turkish-occupied Cyprus visited American Hellenic Institute’s (AHI’s) Hellenic House on June 8, 2012 in separate meetings. The Honorable Alexis Ghalanos, mayor of Famagusta; the Honorable Glafkos Cariolou, mayor of Kyrenia; and the Honorable Michalis Pilikos, mayor of Lefkonicou, were the three mayors who visited AHI. “We were honored to have these dignitaries from Cyprus visit with us,” said AHI President Nick Larigakis. “We welcomed their perspectives on the current situation on the island. We also reviewed our recent trip to Cyprus and shared our thoughts and observations.” Government Spokesman Stefanou met with AHI President Nick Larigakis in the morning. In the afternoon, the mayors from the occupied cities met with President Larigakis, AHI Founder Gene Rossides, and AHI Board of Directors Secretary Nick Karambelas. Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the U.S. Pavlos Anastasiades accompanied the mayors. The American Hellenic Institute is a non-profit Greek American public policy center that works to strengthen relations between the United States and Greece and Cyprus, and within the Greek American community.
