New York Times Publishes AHI Letter Regarding Greece's EU Integration

On June 19, 2001, The New York Times(NYT) published a letter from the American Hellenic Institute's (AHI) media relations director, Chrysoula Economopoulos, responding to a recent op-ed page article by NYT columnistThomas L. Friedman (copy attached). While Friedman's article gives veiled praise to Greece's European Union integration progress, he makes use of a number of negative stereotypes and generalizations. The letter, which was edited down for space by the NYT, is shown at right.
